Hofnin - The Harbour
Overview of Hofnin - The Harbour
We're going to let you in on one of Reykjavik's best kept secrets, the harbour restaurant „Hofnin", where you can experience traditional Icelandic food in a stunning environment. Located in an old fisherman's hut by the Reykjavik harbour, Hofnin strives to serve the very best of Icelandic cuisine, cooked with love and fresh ingredients. Owners Brynjar and Elsa run Hofnin restaurant together. After years of being in the restaurant business, they heard that plans of demolishing the fishermen's huts by the harbour had been scrapped. Out of more than 70 applicants, Brynjar and Elsa were selected to launch a new restaurant in one of the historical huts.
The result is a lovely restaurant that offers first class seafood courses and other Icelandic delicacies, and the view is to die for. Sitting on the waterfront, enjoying fresh fish and watching the boats rock outside the window is an experience that's hard to beat. Even though the view is a major attraction, Brynjar and Elsa have of course never solely relied on that part. The food is extraordinary and the service is great. The menu features classic seafood dishes and traditional Icelandic cooking, as well as sweet and innovative deserts.
The dinner menu includes savoury starters, such as the shellfish soup „A la Hofnin", with langoustine, mussels, scallops and whipped cream and the intriguing „Guilemout", marinated guillemot breast with celery root puree, horseradish oil and blue cheese. Hofnin is well known for their mussels from Breidarfjordur with garlic broth, herb sauce and french fries. You can also choose from plaice, charr, salted cod, lamb, beef and vegetarian dishes for your main course. For desert, we recommend the Skyr with rhubarb cake, licorice meringues, mint gel and rhubarb broth, although we are sure that you'll be satisfied with whatever you choose.
It is ideal to pop in at Hofnin for lunch, as the very special lunch offer is as affordable as it is good. You can get soup of the day with freshly baked bread and catch of the day for only 1990ISK, which is a real bargain. The bistro menu also available during lunchtime features mouthwatering dishes, such as the chicken salad, langoustine pizza, and the ever so popular Plokkfiskur, the traditional Icelandic fishstew with potatoes and rye bread. Don't miss out on this magnificent culinary experience.
